Dear  Parents,

Welcome to Morris Hill Elementary!  We are excited that your children will be attending our school for the 2006-2007 school year.  Morris Hill typically serves between 225-260 students in Kindergarten through Grade Five.  We also have an Early Childhood Program that serves three and four year old students assigned to the program.

We feel we have one of the most dedicated staffs you can find in all of America.  Our staff is dedicated to working with your families to find the best way to serve Morris Hill students.  In fact, these tenets we have developed  tells of our mission.

Morris Hill strives to develop an atmosphere where students and families feel safe and comfortable being at our school every day.  We center our interactions with each other around the Lifeskills and Lifelong Guidelines.  By using common language, we can guide our students to make good choices daily and set their course toward success.

We also have a strong academic program.  In the past four years, we have reached the State Standard of Excellence in Math.  During that period, we met the State Standard of excellence in Reading in 2003 and narrowly missed that standard the other three years.  During the 2004-2005 school year, 100% of our second graders exited reading at a third grade level or above according to the Flynt-Cooter Assessment taken in May of 2005

We also take pride in the support we offer to our military families and the connection we often have with students and parents who attend Morris Hill.  One young lady recently left us a note expressing her passion for our school.  She wrote, “This will always be my favorite school.  I hope the next school will be as good as this one.  I wish the school could move with us.”

A parent recently shared this sentiment as they prepared to move to their next duty station, “I will miss how much each and everyone made us feel welcome at school.  How you took the time to listen to our concerns and addressed them.  Also if there was a concern from you that you would also take the time to call us.  Mr. Lumb you have the most outstanding teachers and a staff that goes above and beyond what any parent could ask for.”

We hope that every parent and child feels this good when they attend Morris Hill.  It is our goal that they will.  We look forward to meeting you and serving you in the upcoming school year.

Sincerely,

Greg Lumb
Principal
